The crisp contemporary open aesthetic of the addition acts as a counterpoint to the original auditorium while acknowledging the legacy of Minneapolis’ modernist downtown buildings and public spaces, designed by some of the 20th century’s most prominent architects.

The Whitney Museum building’s unique façade features a step structure that creates 15,000 square feet of sculpture terraces, outdoor galleries and event space, from which visitors may enjoy sweeping views of the Hudson River to the west and the midtown Manhattan skyline to the east.
Throughout the design process the Aurora City Council and City staff asked for a building that would reflect the rich traditions of the City and give architectural form to the dignity of their government and Wells Concrete provided exactly what their needs were.
