Eide introduced a series of threaded rods to the design, which not only accomplished this artistic feature but also maintained the engineering strength to meet both wind and snow loads. The top membrane cover was also designed with diverters to re-route runoff rainwater away from pedestrian walkways

The area around UC Berkeley has been plagued in the last 15 years by student housing projects that copy classical buildings or present cold ‘modern’ boxes in bright colors. With The Metropolitan we provided a sculptural, clearly contemporary building that has a vocabulary all its own.

In 2016, the opera welcomed new President and General Director Ryan Taylor, a former resident artist in 2000. He noticed when he arrived that the furniture was the same as it had been since his resident artist days. He felt the office needed to be updated to have a consistent look throughout.
