Waterfront Bar with ActivWall Gas Strut Windows | ActivWall

The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood

Located on the Calabash River in North Carolina, The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood has served guests since 2018. It is a contemporary seafood venue offering the perfect blend of low-country upscale and Carolina casual.

Behind the main building at Oyster Rock, guests can enjoy steamed oysters and cold drinks at a waterfront bar called the Oyster Pit. This bar area offers dock space for tying off boats, outdoor seating, and TVs for sports fans. As featured in Our State Magazine, “Diners can watch as shrimp trawlers bring in their haul, which might just end up on your plate as some of Calabash’s famous fried seafood.”

Originally, the Oyster Pit was built with folding wooden panels to close the bar and three walls of fixed windows. After years of exposure to the elements, the owners decided to update the Oyster Pit. They turned to WindowZ, Inc., who ordered and installed custom-made ActivWall Gas Strut Windows to replace the weathered wooden panels and windows surrounding the dock bar.

ActivWall Gas Strut Windows are made of thermally broken aluminum with insulated glass. They open up and out on sturdy gas struts to create a serving bar and pass-through window, which is perfect for bar settings like the Oyster Pit.

Ten Gas Strut Windows windows were built for this project in various sizes. Each unit was finished in a white powder coat with a coastal coating to protect it from exposure to ocean breezes.
