The large entrance canopies presented a significant engineering design challenge. Tall cantilevered columns were created out of two C-shaped panels to support the canopy slab. The unique-shaped canopy cantilevered out from the top of the columns and the geometry of the system created relatively high moments. Connection detailing and thinking outside of traditional solutions was essential to making the system work without increasing precast size.
