The Ice in Paradise building exterior design is a simple precast concrete panel building that uses multiple colors to help reduce its mass. The entry features Santa Barbara Stone and a wood trellis, they provided a signature and striking look.
Kalwall's curtainwall flanks the theatre’s main signage, giving it the symbolic feel of two large screens that hint of the cinematic excitement inside. Additional metal fabricated and installed by MG McGrath on the interior includes column covers made of the same weathered steel and copper as the feature wall.
The exterior architectural features include four different colors with a sandblast and acid etch finish used on all four colors. This combination offered eight different texture and colors.
In direct light, the blues from Pure + FreeForms Graphic Collection have a pearlized hairline, giving further depth and visual interest. However, the most unique feature of the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium project is the metal tiles, purposefully designed to look like fish scales.
